Abstract

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has brought significant changes to the educational landscape, including teaching and learning processes in vocational secondary schools. AI is increasingly utilized as a learning support tool that offers various benefits, while also presenting pedagogical and ethical challenges. This study aims to analyze the use of AI in education by examining its implementation, students’ perceptions, and the challenges encountered in its application at SMK Insan Cendikia Bandar Mataram. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with the principal, teachers, and students, as well as supporting documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with triangulation techniques applied to ensure data validity. The findings indicate that AI has been utilized by both students and teachers as a learning support tool, particularly through chatbots and AI-based digital platforms to search for information, complete assignments, and support learning evaluation. Students generally perceive AI as helpful in improving learning efficiency and understanding complex materials. However, the study also reveals several challenges, including limited digital literacy, the potential for technological dependency, and concerns regarding reduced critical thinking skills and social interaction. Therefore, the use of AI in education should be accompanied by continuous guidance, ethical reinforcement, and active teacher involvement to ensure that AI functions as a supportive learning tool rather than a substitute for the role of educators.
