Author Guidelines
Advice and Suggestions for Manuscript Submission
Al-Muallim: Journal of Islamic Education Studies
Before beginning the writing process, authors are strongly advised to thoroughly read and follow the instructions below. Non-compliance with these guidelines may result in the manuscript being returned for revision, potentially delaying the editorial and publication process.
Word Limit Specifications
Manuscripts must be within the range of 3,000 to 6,000 words (applies to journal articles only).
Submission Requirements
- Submissions must be in Microsoft Word format (*.docx).
- Manuscripts may be written in Indonesian or English (Indonesian authors are required to submit in the Indonesian language).
- All manuscripts should be written in objective third-person point of view, using terms like “the author” or “the researcher” instead of first-person pronouns such as “I” or “we”.
Originality of Manuscripts
Only original and unpublished manuscripts will be considered for review. Submitted works must not be under review or published in any other journal or publication platform.
Revised Manuscripts
Al-Muallim: Journal of Islamic Education Studies does not accept revised versions of manuscripts that have previously appeared in other publications. To ensure originality, a manuscript must contain at least 80% new content, and no more than 200 consecutive words (with proper citation) may be directly reproduced from any previously published source.
Copyright Agreement
Authors must complete the Author Guarantee and Transfer of Copyright Agreement electronically. The journal no longer accepts PDF-based copyright agreements. The copyright agreement is a required step during the submission process.
Plagiarism Screening
Plagiarism is taken seriously in Al-Muallim: Journal of Islamic Education Studies. Every manuscript undergoes a plagiarism check using Turnitin. Authors are expected to cite all referenced work correctly and express ideas in their own words. Detected plagiarism will be communicated to the author for correction and may result in rejection.
Authors and Affiliations
- List all authors, separated by commas.
- Provide complete and accurate author names as they will be indexed in scholarly databases.
- Affiliations should be linked using superscript numbers and written in the format:
Institution/University/Organization, Country (no postal addresses).
Example: Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Tarbiyah Al Mubarok, East Lampung, Indonesia. - Corresponding author(s) must be marked with a superscript, and their email address(es) listed clearly under the affiliation section.
Title Instructions
- Titles must be clear, specific, and engaging, limited to a maximum of 15 words.
- Use title case: Capitalize the first letter of each significant word (e.g., “Teaching Strategies in Islamic Education”).
- Do not write titles in all uppercase (e.g., “ISLAMIC EDUCATION IN INDONESIA” is incorrect).
- Always capitalize the first word of the title and subtitle.
Abstract
The abstract should be a concise summary of the study (maximum 250 words), written in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, and must:
- Present background/context of the study
- State the aims and scope
- Describe the methods used
- Highlight main findings
- Offer conclusions
Avoid abbreviations and do not cite references in the abstract.
Keywords
Authors must include 3 to 5 keywords that reflect the core concepts of the study.
Headings
Headings must follow the provided formatting template. Do not number section headings (e.g., "1. Introduction"). Use clear and descriptive titles aligned with the structure of the paper.
Text Formatting
- Font: Goudy Old Style, 12 pt
- Line spacing: Single
- Indicate new paragraphs by inserting a single empty line
- Include page numbers and line numbers to assist in peer review
Images and Tables
- A maximum of 20 images per manuscript is allowed
- Images must be submitted as separate files in .tif format
- Authors are responsible for securing permissions for any copyrighted material
- Tables and figures must be clearly labeled and referenced in the text
- Please consult the journal’s image guide for detailed instructions
Citation and Referencing
- Use Chicago Manual of Style 17th Edition (Full Note) for all references
- Manuscripts must include at least 20 references
- Incorrect or inconsistent citation formatting will result in the manuscript being returned for correction
- Refer to the citation guide/template provided on the journal website
Self-Citation
Self-citation is permitted but must not exceed 50% of total references. Authors should ensure that self-citations are relevant and enhance the value of the manuscript.
LaTeX Incompatibility
Al-Muallim: Journal of Islamic Education Studies does not accept LaTeX files. Authors should use MathType to insert mathematical symbols or equations. MathType can be downloaded at: http://www.dessci.com/en/products/mathtype/
Equations
Where possible, insert equations directly into the Word document. If complex formatting is needed, use MathType.
Copy Editing and Proofreading
Authors are responsible for thorough proofreading and copy editing of their manuscripts before submission. Ensure accurate grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Submitted manuscripts will be treated as final versions for publication.
Important Note
The manuscript template is intended to standardize formatting and facilitate peer review, but does not represent the final published layout. The editorial team reserves the right to determine the final formatting and design.
Please Note: All manuscripts MUST be submitted through the online submission system (OJS). Submissions via email or other channels will not be accepted.
