Abstract

This research is motivated by the author's concern regarding the implementation of literacy activities to increase students' reading interest at SD Plus Al Ishlah Jatidatar Bandar Mataram Lampung Tengah. Many students still have little interest in reading due to a lack of knowledge in literacy learning. The focus of this study is on how the implementation of literacy activities can improve students' reading interests at SD Plus Al Ishlah Jatidatar Bandar Mataram Lampung Tengah. This type of research uses a descriptive qualitative approach, employing three methods: observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique utilizes data reduction, data display, and data verification. The data validity checks use persistence in observation, triangulation, and reference language.

The research results indicate that (1) the implementation of literacy activities aimed at increasing students' reading interest at SD Plus Al Ishlah Jatidatar Bandar Mataram Lampung Tengah is by the existence of several efforts including conducting an initial assessment, grouping students according to level, implementing learning activities according to level, organizing reading corners in every class, and providing appreciation; (2) the challenges faced by teachers are at the beginning of the implementation of literacy activities, teachers find it difficult to coordinate the literacy classes that have been divided based on each student's literacy ability level at SD Plus Al Ishlah Jatidatar Bandar Mataram Lampung Tengah. Furthermore, students who feel shy when combined with other classes during literacy learning. (3) Students are people who are studying at school, or learners at the primary and secondary education levels. In general, students are an important component in the education system, who follow the learning process under the guidance of teachers.
